Commitment Ceremony Invitation Wording: 8 Examples

Published September 7, 2026

A commitment ceremony invitation should explain what you are inviting people to, who is celebrating and how guests can respond. It can sound formal, relaxed or deeply personal without borrowing wording that misrepresents the event.

These are original wording examples to adapt. Names, venues and dates in brackets are placeholders, not real weddings.

Describe the event accurately

Choose wedding, commitment ceremony, vow renewal or celebration only when it describes what you are arranging. Those words are not interchangeable legal categories.

This article is about communication, not the legal validity or permissibility of a ceremony. Check the relevant jurisdiction and the person leading the event. For multi-partner celebrations, do not assume a non-legal or symbolic label removes legal issues; see our separate planning guide.

1. Simple and direct

[Name] and [Name]
invite you to their commitment ceremony
[date] at [time]
[venue, city]
Dinner and conversation to follow.
Please respond by [date] at [website].

This works when you want the event description to be clear without adding an explanation of your personal decisions.

2. Formal

The pleasure of your company is requested
at the commitment celebration of
[Full name] and [Full name]
on [written date] at [time]
[venue and location]
Reception to follow.
Kindly reply by [date].

Check that the line breaks remain legible at the actual print size. Formal does not have to mean tiny type.

3. Warm and relaxed

We have built a life together. Now we'd love to celebrate it with you.
Join [names] for promises, good food and time with our favourite people.
[date, time and place]
Let us know by [date] whether you can join us: [website].

Use this when the gathering is centred on connection rather than a formal programme.

4. With chosen family

Together with the people who have supported us,
[names]
invite you to celebrate our commitment and the life we share.
[date, time and venue]
Your presence would mean so much to us.
RSVP at [website] by [date].

Ask before naming or describing other people in the host line. A general statement of support can be enough.

5. An intimate gathering

We are marking our commitment with a small gathering of our closest people.
[Names] would love you to join us at [place]
on [date] at [time].
[Describe the meal or refreshments accurately.]
Please reply directly to [contact] by [date].

A small gathering still benefits from clear food, arrival and departure information.

6. A celebration after a private occasion

We marked our commitment privately, and now we would love to celebrate with you.
Join [names] for [dinner/dancing/a relaxed afternoon]
on [date] at [time], [venue].
This invitation is for the celebration.
Please RSVP by [date] at [website].

Being explicit avoids guests arriving expecting a ceremony that has already happened.

7. With children or a blended family

[Names], with [children's names, with their agreement],
invite you to a celebration of commitment, family and the life we are building.
[date, time and place]
Please respond by [date] using [method].

Children do not need to be named or take part in the ceremony. Check their comfort rather than treating participation as a test of support.

8. A celebration without public labels

[Names]
invite you to celebrate a joyful new chapter with us.
[date] at [time]
[venue, city]
[Accurate description of the gathering.]
Details and RSVP: [website].

You can keep relationship details private while still giving guests enough information to decide whether and how to attend. Do not imply a legal status that is not accurate.

Add the practical details elsewhere

An invitation is not the place for every transport, clothing or accessibility explanation. Put the essentials on the card and direct guests to a useful website section or details card. Include a written web address when using a QR code.

Use clear RSVP instructions and name the invitees rather than relying on an open-ended household label. Read our invitation wording guide for more approaches to names and hosts.
